Political police threaten opposition Moraima Rodríguez and her family

Moraima Rodríguez Batista y miembros del PUNCLI

GUANTANAMO, Cuba. — The Cuban political police summoned this Monday the national organization coordinator of the Union for Free Cuba Party (PUNCLI) and managing leader of the emilia projectMoraima Rodríguez Batista, because of her posts on social networks.

The complaint was made by the activist herself, who assured CubaNet that she was verbally summoned to appear at eight in the morning at the police station in the capital’s neighborhood of Calabazar (where she lives), where she remained until around five in the afternoon.

The officers revealed to Moraima that the reason for the summons was her constant posting of complaints on her Facebook profile and that for this she could be punished with fines and even imprisonment for the crime of usurpation of functions, since, supposedly, she is not authorized to carry out this activity.

The source also assured that they told her that she had a daughter, that she had to be very careful not to let go of a tire from a car and inadvertently damage it.

Juan Luis Bravo Rodríguez, who also belongs to the leadership of PUNCLI and the Emilia project, assured this outlet that on September 9, a State Security officer had already appeared at Rodríguez Batista’s home.

The agent took her to the Calabazar police station and threatened to apply the Decree Law 370which prohibits the dissemination of information “contrary to social interest, morality, good customs and the integrity of people” and that in recent years has been used by the Cuban regime as an instrument to limit freedom of expression on the Internet.

The fine against Moraima was never applied because the inspector from the Ministry of Telecommunications did not show up at the scene.

Bravo Rodríguez also assured that the opponent was verbally summoned to appear at the police station the following day, where she remained for around four hours.

“I am very afraid of the threat they made to my daughter, because I am aware that state security agents are very capable of fulfilling the promise to kill my daughter in an accident,” Moraima told this newspaper.

“I will start planning what the course of our lives will be like from now on. I hold the Cuban government and State Security responsible for what may happen to my family,” he added.

At the close of this information, the activist denounced that she received an international recharge through the promotion of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) in which she received the corresponding voice and data bonuses, but without the main balance.
