Political police arrest opposition figure Eloy Colunga and raid his home in Santiago

MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban political police raided this Wednesday in Santiago de Cuba the house of the opposition member Eloy Colunga, who was arrested as part of the operation.

Yanet Caballero Mora, wife of the activist, confirmed to the portal Cuban DNA that the event occurred around five in the morning, when two men in civilian clothes—apparently State Security agents—who did not identify themselves, arrived at the house and asked for Colunga.

The woman’s testimony indicates that the agents quickly entered the home and took out the opponent in handcuffs.

“When I told them I was sleeping they told the uniformed police officers to proceed. They pushed me and went straight into the room to look for him and took him out handcuffed,” Caballero told Cuban DNA.

As part of the operation, regime agents took several of the opponent’s belongings and experts dressed in green, apparently military, took photos of the house.

The Castro repressors not only arrested Eloy Colunga and took his belongings, but also confiscated the opponent’s cell phone and that of his underage son.

“In the room was the memory and the disk on the dresser. They went through the closet drawers and raised the mattress. They took an agenda and other papers that he had,” denounced the activist’s wife.

As confirmed to the woman by one of the plainclothes officers, Eloy Colunga is being investigated for alleged crimes committed against State Security.

A native of Ciego de Ávila, Colunga has been developing his activism for several years denouncing the mismanagement of the island’s authorities and participating in initiatives such as the project La Cola De La Libertad (2019), the request of the Civic March for Change, called by the Archipelago political platform for November 15, 2021.

ADN Cuba highlights that in 2022 the authorities of the regime accused him of not having a labor relationship, for which they sentenced him to correctional work without internment for two years.
