According to a report by the Gender Policies Unit of the Electoral Justice, the number of women who ran for positions in conflict in the last municipal elections increased by 2% compared to the 2015 elections.
Regarding the positions effectively won by women, of the mayors elected for the period 2021-2025 at the national level, 12% correspond to women, while for members of the Municipal Board, 22.7% of spaces occupied by women were registered .
“This increase gives us the panorama that the work that we have been doing from the Electoral Justice has turned into results. 13 of the graduates of the School of Political Training for Women Leaders agreed to elective positions ”, highlighted the Director of the Gender Policies Unit, Cynthia Figueredo.
“Our goal is for more women to run for the next elections and for this we are going to start the tasks in February,” he added.
He valued the representation with respect to some cities where there is no female representation in unipersonal positions.
“Our actions will be focused on these sectors in such a way that we can motivate the political participation of women. In contrast, we have cities where even the Municipal Board has reached parity, and we see it as good practices for democracy, ”said Figueredo.
He emphasized the scope of female participation to occupy positions of vital importance. “Women are important because 49% of the Electoral Register is made up of women. Then the Public Administration must also be managed by this sector. Democracy is made up of all citizens and citizens are made up of men and women ”, he concluded
