The Municipal Police of Hatillo captured Neiquel Daniel Gutiérrez, alleged murderer of journalist Mercedes Herrera, whose body was found in her home on October 3, after having been reported missing by her relatives.
In a press release from the Mirandino police force, the arrest of Gutiérrez was reported, who would be the boyfriend of the journalist’s domestic employee and who was detained.
It also states that “after the efforts and investigations of the different police forces in the Metropolitan area, it was possible for the family of the alleged perpetrator to communicate with PoliHatillo, indicating where the suspect was, thus achieving his capture.”
Neiquel Daniel Gutiérrez was placed under the orders of the Homicide Investigation Division of the Cicpc and the Public Ministry, so that he can be presented to the courts in the next few hours.
With the employee he planned the crime
It is worth remembering that journalist Mercedes Herrera, 40 years old, was reported missing by her relatives on September 30. She had said that she would go out to Waraira Repano, (Ávila), to walk but afterwards there was no further communication.
After the police forces moved to his residence located in the Altamira urbanization, his body was found in a state of decomposition, tied up and with signs of violence.
Cicpc’s investigations determined that the domestic employee who worked for the journalist on a daily basis had convinced Herrera to have her boyfriend do gardening work.
On the day of the event, Gutiérrez would have entered the house, proceeding to subdue the victim and suffocate her.
The couple fled with $1,000 in cash, as well as his cell phone and some valuables.
