Santo Domingo.-The hiring of illegal immigrant employees entails an additional danger, especially when the pattern has a direct treatment with the worker, who in case of being a victim of a violent act of the authorities becomes more difficult to persecute.
In the last two years there have been about 15 cases in which Haitian workers have killed their employers and in most cases the perpetrators flee to their country without leaving registration of their stay in the Dominican Republic.
From 2022 to date, nine cases have been registered in different demarcations in the country and that have had in common denominator that several of the victims were landowners, livestock or merchants who maintained a labor link with their executioners.
The most recent case occurred last Saturday, when the bodies of Juan Ramón Almánzar Pujols and his driver, Rafael Alcántara (Felin), 59, on a farm in the La Ceiba community, Las Mercedes, Pederles, Págedes, of Pederles, were found.
Due to the double murder, the Haitian Breison Pie, who also worked for Almánzar Pujols, who was dedicated to the commercialization of agricultural products in the border area is sought.
Pie was pointed out as a trustworthy person of his victims. The authorities warned about the danger of the fugitive that is strongly armed.
Through a statement, the National Police urged people who use the services of these foreigners to manage regularization to have real data on them.

In mid -December, four Haitians killed the farmer Simeón Amadeo Reyes Torres, 66, allegedly to remove his belongings, in the municipality of San José de las Matas.
In June of last year, the farmer Francisco Flores was finalized by a Haitian employee identified as “Papo” and his body was found in the milking area of his hacienda, located in the Caya Clara community, in the municipality of Cabrera, María Trinidad province Sanchez.

In September 2023, a band composed of Dominicans and Haitians killed the landowner Ramón Eugenio Medina, his wife Carmelina Antonia Cabrera Ramos, his son Daniel Medina Cabrera and Charli Veloz Quezada.
Foreigners involved in 212 homicides
Criminality. In 2024, 212 homicides were registered that involved Haitians, of which 122 corresponded to social conflicts and 43 to criminal acts, according to official statistics.
They add that in 49.6 % of homicides the use of white weapons, such as knives or machetes, was recorded.
Among the places that were registered these cases are four provinces: Santiago, La Altagracia, La Vega and Barahona, and the municipalities Santo Domingo Este and West.
Dominican authorities have faced problems to catch or prosecute Haitians involved in criminal acts, since in some they do not have any type of records or documents to be identified.
