Police say protocol failed in case of young man detained in Santiago police station

Falló protocolo, dice la Policía sobre caso de joven detenido en destacamento de Santiago

The National Police said there was a protocol failure when the now deceased Víctor Alfonso was detained at the police station in Plaza Fernando Valerio, in Santiago.

According to unpublished details of the investigation, the officers who locked up the 30-year-old man did not remove a coat he was wearing, which had a cord attached to it, with which he hanged himself.

Several days ago, when asked about both deaths, the director of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, reported that both cases remain under investigation.

“That is under investigation. So far, the forensic certificates do not say that, but it is under investigation,” said Guzmán Peralta.
