On their second day of protest, hundreds of teachers marched towards Plaza Murillo to demand a larger budget for education and provision of items. But before their arrival, in the adjacent streets, they were repressed by the Police, who dispersed them with tear gas to prevent their entry.
The sector affirms that there are five teachers injured and four apprehended, a fact that was contradicted by the Police, who reported one apprehended.
The images show how, for about 40 minutes, Socabaya and Yanacocha streets are flooded with teachers holding flags, who tried to enter Murillo square. They resisted the police gassing, but some were injured and affected by tear gas, amid moments of tension.
Later they went to the Ministry of Education, on Arce Avenue, but outside the public entity they found a police “wall”, which prevented the teachers from approaching the public offices.

“This is the democracy of a government supposedly of the people. Today in the morning we have been strongly repressed in a march that was peaceful. We have five wounded and four arrested,” said Patricio Molina, one of the teachers’ leaders, interviewed by Unitel.
The Police, for their part, reported that a uniformed officer was injured and that a teacher was arrested, who was allegedly inciting violence while intoxicated.
Molina emphasized that they are asking for 30% of the General Treasury of the Nation (TGN) as a budget for education, since the municipal governments do not have the resources to commission education in the country and that those who finance it are the parents. It is expected that by 4:00 p.m. the sector will meet with the government authorities.
