Santiago, RD – The National Police reported that recovered electrical cables and copper pipes stolen from the cooling system Santiago Apostle the Greater Cathedraland arrested the alleged perpetratoridentified as Jose Rafael Sosa Sosaalias “Alexis the Cacú”of 49 years.
According to the police report, the recovery of the stolen material was the result of a investigation and monitoring made by the Property Crime Investigation Divisionafter the complaint filed by the Father Regino Alfonso Collado Gutiérrezparish priest of the cathedral.
The priest reported that, in the morning hours of October 10, 2025, unknown persons entered the annex area of the templewhere the air conditioning system is located, stealing high value metal parts and causing major damage to the infrastructure of the religious site.
During the interrogation, the detainee admitted his participation in the robbery and confessed that sold the bronze pieces and electrical cables in one metal company in the Villa Rosa I sector.
Near the business, agents found a white sack with fragments of peeled and burned cablespresumably linked to the event.
The suspect was placed under the control of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal purposeswhile authorities continue investigations to determine if there are others involved.
