The National Police Security Directorate ordered the suspension of the Security and Protection Service in favor of the Delia Espinoza Valenzuelawho had been serving as prosecutor of the Nation.
Through a trade, the head of the State Security Directorate, Commander PNP Marco Antonio Romero Camarena, informed Espinoza that after the decision of the National Board of Justice (JNJ) to provisionally suspend it in his status as a supreme prosecutor and prosecutor of the Nation for a period of six months, “the security and protection service provided by the Department of Protection of Officials and Personalities of the State will be suspended.”
According to current regulations, it is the State Security Directorate “the specialized body that is in charge of planning, commanding, organizing, coordinating, articulating, executing, controlling and supervising the police operations of personal protection of the high authorities of the State and national and foreign personalities.”
The willingness to withdraw security is only a few hours after the decision of the JNJ, but also after the public statement of the now suspended Supreme Prosecutor, who said he fears for his life due to the investigations he does and in which he, “
“I am not offending anyone and everything is demonstrated in the folders (prosecutors), he added.
“I am going to send a document because I fear for my life, I am a human being, but that does not fill me with fear to face corruption. I have sent more than ten trades to different interior ministers because we wanted to sit at a table to, among the heads, put together a strategy to face insecurity; it never attended me or called me,” he said at a press conference the last Friday.
PNP evaluates Espinoza’s request
Through a statement, meanwhile, the National Police of Peru reported that the retirement of the security of the Prosecutor of the Nation Delia Espinoza is protected in Supreme Decree 004-2022-IN which is the one that regulates the shelter of state officials.
“On Friday night, September 19, the prosecutor submitted a document requesting that its police protection be maintained, a request that has been evaluated in accordance with the deadlines established by law,” says the document.
He adds that in compliance with the law, the institution “ratifies respect for public institutions and their decisions in line with the constitutional order.”
“Every decision adopted by the National Police is based on technical criteria on strict fulfillment of their duty to protect people,” he said.
