The Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcioannounced that it has begun to apply “control and reliability tests such as the polygraph” to personnel of the National Police of Peru (PNP) and to applicants who aspire to be police officers.
“First of all, we have begun the application of control and reliability tests, such as the polygraph, to active personnel and applicants to police training schools,” he indicated at a press conference.
Likewise, the head of the Mininter assured that “the reorganization of the discipline offices at the national level has been arranged and the special discipline office has been created in Lima.”
The official’s statements took place during the presentation of the “Zero Tolerance to Corruption” plan. During the event, the minister was accompanied by the general commander of the National Police, Óscar Arriola, as well as Lieutenant General Carlos Céspedes, who serves as inspector general of the PNP.
Tiburcio specified that, during 2025, 4,188 police officers have been sanctioned. Of these cases, 570 were due to corruption. In addition, he noted that 1,456 were sanctioned with retirement, while 594 police officers remain with preventive measures such as temporary separation from office.
“We do not tolerate corruption, we do not protect anyone, we do not back down,” he said.
