A farmer was shot dead and two residents were injured during a police intervention of a shipment of 1,000 sacks of contraband garlic in the town of Samán, in the district of Marcavelica, in the province of Sullana.
The murder occurred yesterday afternoon, when the police arrived at a store in the El Patio sector to seize the merchandise, which apparently did not have any documents. In response, the police officers decided to guard the shipment while more police vehicles arrived to transport the sacks to Sullana.

The police used their firearms to control the residents, who were using stones. At that moment, two bullets hit the farmer Medardo Oblea Albán, who, according to his relatives, was near the area of the confrontation. Two residents and two police officers were also injured.
