At least 352 people were arrested this Sunday (2), across the country, for the alleged practice of electoral crimes. According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, agents of the federal and state security forces participating in Operation Elections 2022 also seized BRL 137,900 throughout the day.
Among the 1,378 electoral crimes recorded in the first round of general elections, the most common was exit propaganda, and most cases (230) occurred in Minas Gerais, followed by Paraná (131), Pernambuco (113) and Goiás. (106)
95 incidents related to suspected vote buying or electoral corruption were also recorded; 80 cases in which voters photographed the ballot boxes at the time of voting, which characterizes the violation or attempt to break the secrecy of the vote, and 57 cases of irregular transport of voters.
The 352 arrests took place in practically all federative units, with the exception of Bahia. In Minas Gerais alone, there were 43 arrests. In Amazonas, 39 people were arrested and, in Pará, 32. In Pará, the largest sum of money of the day (R$ 32,700) was seized.
The BRL 137,900 seized yesterday adds to the more than BRL 3 million that Federal (PF) and Federal Highway (PRF) police officers had already seized. Launched last Monday (26), to strengthen the security of voters and Electoral Justice servers and ensure the tranquility of the election, Operation Elections 2022 is coordinated by the Secretary of Integrated Operations of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The initiative involves representatives of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE); the civil and military police of the 27 federative units; in addition to the Federal and Federal Highway Police; the Ministry of Defence; the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) and the National Secretariat for Civil Defense and Protection (Sedec).
