The Nicaraguan Police reported this Monday that it has launched an emergency plan on road safety, due to the increase in accidents on the roads, where 863 people have lost their lives so far this year.
The plan consists of permanently monitoring the 75 most dangerous sections of highways, out of a total of 200, where 74% of car accidents that leave deaths and injuries occur, said the head of the Nicaraguan National Traffic Directorate, Vilma Reyes, to the Sandinista Channel 4 television.
“They are going to see us on the highway, the bridges, the crossroads, taking care of life, also calling on drivers to responsibly take care of life, not only of those who are in the vehicle, but also of those who circulate nearby or from another vehicle,” Reyes said in reference to the plan, which is already underway.

In the first 11 months of 2022, a total of 863 people have died on the roads of Nicaragua, 58 more than last year, according to official data.
On the other hand, the number of collisions between January and November last amounted to 43,153, that is, 1,927 accidents more than in all of 2021, according to data from the Nicaraguan Police.
51% of deaths in traffic accidents were motorcyclists, according to the information.
Among the reasons that most cause car accidents in Nicaragua is high speed and drunkenness, according to the traffic police chief.
