Three people were arrested in the city of Oruro for selling the dollar at Bs 7.70, The police of this region reported this Friday, according to a report from the Erbol network. The detainees will be prosecuted for agio, when they are found selling this currency above the official price of Bs 6.96.

The departmental commander of the Bolivian Police, Colonel Jorge Ríos, reported that these people were detained in a well-known place in the city.

The operation was carried out on Aldana and Velasco Galvarro streets. The detainees are a person of 62 years, another of 73 and the third of 69, who were engaged in the activity of trading foreign currency as free traders.

The Police opened an investigation for the crimes of agio and speculation against the three detainees “in order to protect the economy and avoid agio by unscrupulous people.”

Ríos maintained that the detainees have already been forwarded to the Public Ministry and brought to the attention of the judicial authority, as reported by the Pío XII-Erbol Oruro network.

The Police will continue with the operations through the Intelligence system to avoid speculation in foreign currency.

Since March, Bolivia has registered an unusual demand for dollars. First, the government blamed analysts and social networks for allegedly spreading erroneous news that generated speculation in the country.

But later he admitted that the country suffered a temporary liquidity problem and that it had the necessary solvency to meet the demand for dollars.

“What there was was a temporary liquidity problem that is different from a solvency problem, which is when everyone closes the doors to you. Therefore, a liquidity problem is when you have assets and you cannot make them liquid, for example, right now I can’t have money,” said Economy Minister Marcelo Montenegro.
