The Municipal Police of Morón, Carabobo state, plotted with the aggressor of the lawyer Kenia Zambrano to simulate a fight. The woman, who was seven months pregnant, was harassed, insulted and delayed medical assistance while she was in that police station. On September 23, she went to the 14th Prosecutor’s Office to report the murder of the child, for which the exhumation of the body was ordered. The Women’s Institute, attached to the Mayor’s Office of Puerto Cabello, also issued a statement in support of Zambrano and rejecting violence against women, pregnant women and humanized childbirth.
On September 17, the lawyer Kenia Zambrano was attacked in the street by her husband’s ex-partner. When she went to file the complaint at the Morón Municipal Police headquarters, Juan José Mora municipality, Carabobo state, she was also harassed, insulted and medical assistance was delayed, which caused the death of her baby, who was born with barely seven months.
Two officials from the Puerto Cabello Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (Cicpc), doctor Augusto Ramírez and eighth prosecutor Augusto Lobo are also involved in the incident.
The lawyer told The Digital Morning that on Saturday the 17th she was attacked by Keslin Castro, her husband’s ex-partner, near the bus stop on the main street of Banco Obrero, in Morón. The woman punched and kicked him several times in the stomach. “People didn’t get involved until a man passing by said ‘Don’t attack her, she’s pregnant.’ At that moment the aggressor fled.
Her partner encouraged her to report the attacks. At the headquarters of the Municipal Police (PM), the lawyer was treated and an agent told her that she had to wait for a patrol to take her to an outpatient clinic to do a review. Zambrano showed the bruises and reiterated that she was pregnant, so she needed to go to the doctor urgently. “That’s fast,” replied the uniformed man, alluding to the arrival of the vehicle.
At that moment a commission arrived with the aggressor. Zambrano listened when the agents told her: “Are you crazy? How dare you attack a pregnant woman like that? That’s too touchy, you’re in big trouble. We don’t know how you’re going to get out of this mess.”
He also listened when another officer told him, “Well, you’re going to have to beat the crap out of yourself to say it was a fight.”
The lawyer insisted that her identity card be returned to her because she felt bad. The agent who attended her told her that she could not return her document to him because she was still processing the complaint, but she gave him the order to go to an outpatient clinic. In that place, a doctor initially refused to treat her, until another policeman ordered him.
“He gave me a fleeting, almost violent examination and determined that everything was fine,” said Kenia Zambrano. Upon returning to the municipal police headquarters, to complete the formalities of the complaint, one of the policemen told her that she was detained “because the other girl is beaten, that was a fight, she has blows to the face.”
The lawyer refused to be handcuffed and, at that moment, Daniel Rodríguez, director of the Morón Police, came out and asked what was happening. When she was told that Zambrano refused to be handcuffed, she yelled at him: “You’re under arrest, that was a fight, you’re not going to get special treatment because you’re a lawyer, I’m also a lawyer.”

Alleging that she was pregnant and the procedure was illegal, Rodríguez yelled at her again that she was under arrest, pushed her, handcuffed her and took a photo of her for review.
“I insisted on asking the director of the PM who ordered him to arrest a pregnant woman and he told me that my arrest was ordered by Augusto Lobo, eighth prosecutor of the Public Ministry,” he explained. The woman was sitting in a chair from 2:00 pm until after 7:30 pm, when the police agreed to call the Fire Department to take her to a hospital, because she felt bad.
«My belly was moving, I felt very bad (…) I told them that I needed to be taken to a health center, it hurt a lot, the baby was contracting, as a result of the blows, of anger. As I am a first-timer, I did not know how to explain to them that they were contractions, “said the woman.
She was transferred to the Morón outpatient clinic, where doctor Augusto Ramírez received her. “She gave me a physical exam and he told me I had nothing. I asked her how she was going to say that and she replied that there was nothing abnormal, that it was a show to evade responsibilities. The nurses when they heard that they examined me and supported me. They said I was having contractions. In that the police threatened to imprison them too. They insisted with the doctor that I had contractions and Dr. Ramírez replied ‘I have 36 years of experience and I confirm that these are not contractions, everything is fine there, it is a show of the patient’».
The police tried to take her away, Zambrano says, but the nurses cordoned her off and insisted that she was having contractions, that she and the baby were at risk; like the firefighters. In the end, she was transferred to the Adolfo Prince Lara hospital in Puerto Cabello, where the chief physician ordered an emergency cesarean section.
“The head doctor ordered me to be taken directly to the delivery room, she spoke with doctor Augusto Ramírez, who reluctantly came after saying that he was fed up with the guard duty at the Morón clinic and now he had to go to Puerto Cabello. He confirmed to the obstetrician-gynecologist that I had nothing, that everything was normal, “continues the lawyer.
Her son was born with respiratory difficulties, so he was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Unit. She was taken to her room, where she was guarded by two municipal police officers. “The doctor told me that there was a premature detachment of the placenta due to the blows received and the mistreatment,” said Kenia Zambrano.
A few hours after the caesarean section, the eighth prosecutor, Augusto Lobo, appeared with a Control judge and a public defender for the presentation hearing.
«The hearing began and the prosecutor told me that as a lawyer I knew what the procedure was. He tells me that he was notified of a fight between two people, and when I started to tell him the facts, he tried to stop it, alleging that talking could give me gas. Still, I told him that this was all bad procedure. That the PM of Morón forged the minutes to state that it was a fight when the truth is that I was savagely attacked by Yeslin Castro », she detailed.
The prosecutor acknowledged that he had not been informed of her pregnancy. “I asked for the aggressor to be deprived of liberty because they caused me to go into labor and my son was struggling between life and death. He told me no and gave Keslin Castro a substitute for freedom, with a presentation. I told him that’s unfair. He replied that the aggressor would remain free under presentation and I was also under the presentation regime ».
48 hours later, her son passed away due to health problems at birth.
