Yesterday, the Police mounted an operation carried out by eight officers in civilian clothes, to capture the interim vice president of the Cruceñista Youth Union (UJC) of Plan Three Thousand, Oswaldo Erwin Sánchez Vázquez, at work, for alleged vandalism and public incitement to commit crimes.

On the same day, the Prosecutor’s Office issued a summons for tomorrow, at 11:00 a.m., for Vicente Cuéllar, rector of the Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (UAGRM), to appear to testify in the case of the 36-day strike ( between October and November of last year) for the census, after he did not attend on a previous occasion because he was traveling in Europe.

Sánchez Vázquez was captured yesterday morning at his workplace by eight police officers in civilian clothes. The president of this institution, Gary González, denounced that the capture was carried out arbitrarily and without clear grounds.

The UJC leaders regretted that the young man was not notified or summoned before the operation, which they considered a “kidnapping.”

“Eight alleged officers dressed in civilian clothes appeared; They were in three private vans and arbitrarily entered the workplace, which is an awning where he works as a welder, they asked for him and they charged him,” González said, in telephone contact with EL DEBER.

Testimonies from Sánchez’s work colleagues indicated that they tried to intervene to defend him, but found themselves at a disadvantage in the face of the majority presence of the police.

The agents justified the arrest by claiming that the unionist was being investigated for alleged crimes of vandalism and public incitement to commit a crime, without offering further details in this regard.

Sánchez was transferred from his work, located on Avenida 16 de Julio and Radial 10, to the central office of the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc). After taking the statements, he was apprehended, and awaiting his hearing for precautionary measures, which could be held today.

Several activists and representatives of citizen platforms came to the front of the Felcc to demand the release of the unionist, arguing that it is an act of reprisal for his participation in councils and citizen mobilizations.

In the place, the activists harangued with songs in which they indicated that they would not allow “one more Santa Cruz” to be kidnapped and imprisoned, as was the governor Luis Fernando Camacho, in December of last year.

Vicente Cuéllar, summoned to testify

The La Paz Prosecutor’s Office, through the cooperation of the Santa Cruz Prosecutor’s Office, summoned the rector of the UAGRM, Vicente Cuéllar, as a defendant to provide his informative statement for the 36-day strike.

The academic authority must appear this Wednesday, May 24, at 4:00 p.m., at the offices of the Tres Mil Plan Prosecutor’s Office, otherwise, his arrest will be issued, according to the notification.

An official from the Public Ministry arrived yesterday afternoon at the rectory of the UAGRM to leave the notification, and Vicente Cuéllar was there, who signed the document.

Cuéllar was summoned to testify on April 13, but it was rescheduled because he was in the Vatican.

The complaint was filed on November 11, 2022 by Juan Marcelo Mayta, leader of the Central Obrera Regional (COR) of El Alto affiliated with the Government, against the rector of the UAGRM, Governor Luis Fernando Camacho, the vice-rector Reinerio Vargas, José Luis Santistevan and former civic president Rómulo Calvo, among other leaders from Santa Cruz.

Different criticisms were fired against the Public Ministry after it accepted the complaint in El Alto, when the fact was registered in the department of Santa Cruz.

From October 22 to November 26, Santa Cruz went on strike demanding that the Government carry out the Population and Housing Census, which was to be carried out by November 16, 2022, as the Institute had repeatedly announced. National Statistics.

The Inter-institutional Committee and legislators from Santa Cruz demanded meetings with the INE to receive information on the progress of the process. Before the 36-day strike, two marches were held to demand transparent information and due to the lack of response, the strike was resorted to. At that time, several technical tables and reserved meetings were installed, finally the Government gave in to promulgate a law that defined March 23, 2024 as the date of the census.

Luis Fernando Camacho

During the vigil that took place yesterday in the surroundings of the Felcc, the lawyer Martín Camacho, defender of the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, reported that his client will appear on Wednesday at a virtual hearing for the case called “decree”, referred to with the decision to leave one of his secretaries as interim governor during a trip and not lieutenant governor Mario Aguilera, with which the succession would not have been respected.

“This Monday (yesterday) we presented a constitutional action that we filed as a precautionary measure for the life and health of Luis Fernando, in the face of a series of abuses that were committed when he was receiving medical treatment for the underlying disease he has,” said the lawyer.

The goal is to prevent you from being connected to any hearing, while receiving medical treatment, as has already occurred. “Another request is that you receive medical care when you present the symptoms of that disease you have.”

He denounced that the governor’s health is quite deteriorated, in fact he has lost more than 10 kilos in almost six months of detention. “He suffers a lot from high blood pressure, he applied a diet that is not supervised by a nutritionist, imposed by the Penitentiary Regime, and that is causing him to lose weight and muscle mass,” he said.

The governor was apprehended on December 28 of last year in Santa Cruz in the middle of a confusing operation and transferred to La Paz.
