The patron saint festivities of the El Calvario neighborhood, in Chinandega, did not end as the population wanted. The Police spoiled the culmination of this religious festivity by prohibiting the procession of the image “Dulce Nombre de Jesús” yesterday Sunday night.
Hundreds of devotees from Chinandega, León and its surrounding towns came to the temple as every year to accompany the image, patron of this old neighborhood. When they had barely traveled 200 meters from the temple with the image on their shoulders, about five police officers appeared, among them, the second police chief of Chinandega, commissioner Francisco Tardencilla, who approached the parish priest Francisco Barahona to question the departure of the procession of rude way.
«Why did you take out the procession father? Did he request permission? », Questioned the police chief. The parishioners told that the father responded that they obeyed his faith first and his bishop René Sándigo, who celebrated the same in the morning and blessed the departure of the procession at night. Even during the homily, he even called on the parishioners not to miss the procession.
Confusion
Uncertainty reigned upon the arrival of the officers. The procession was in the same place for several minutes, until they ordered the people to return the image to the temple. “The Nazarene stays in his temple,” they heard the police chief say. The order caused anger among parishioners. «Glances full of indignation were fixed against the uniformed men. It is one abuse after another. This is unacceptable,” complained a promisee.
In recent weeks, a change has been observed in the way of acting of Bishop René Sándigo, who is criticized for his good relationship with the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, which maintains a frontal war with the Catholic Church.
Many believe that the priest wants to make believe that he also disagrees with the regime’s abuse of power, but people in the West are not convinced.
The image “Dulce Nombre de Jesús” was consecrated on September 20, 2019. In this department, there are rumors about the prohibition of processions during Holy Week.
It was possible to confirm in this regard that in the coming days the priests will meet with Bishop Sándigo to determine the development of the processions of the upcoming Greater Week.
