The deputy governor of the Santa Cruz province, Ñuflo de Chávez, Daniel Velásquez, was apprehended this Wednesday by agents of the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc), after the Prosecutor’s Office initiated a process against him, for alleged attacks on Ayoreo community members.
“We inform the Bolivian people that the The Public Ministry issued an arrest warrant against the deputy governor from the Ñuflo de Chávez province of Santa Cruz, Daniel Velásquez, for the attacks on the Ayoreo people provoked in days of the civic strikewhich was executed by our Bolivian Police in compliance with current legal regulations”, informed the Minister of Government Eduardo Del Castillo, on his social networks.
The complaint against Velásquez was presented by the Ayorea deputy of special constituency and representative of the indigenous people, Elsa Sánchez, on October 31, after a video in which the authority is allegedly observed attacking community members went viral.
“We have seen in the media how the deputy governor mistreats our Ayorea indigenous sisters, it is outrageous that the rights of our brothers are not respected, that is why I went to the Prosecutor’s Office to make this complaint (…) As a deputy I will always be with them to defend their rights”, said the parliamentarian on that occasion.
The complaint was filed by the alleged crimes of coercion, threats and incitement because, according to Sánchez, the deputy governor led a group of people who attacked the indigenous people who installed a blockade point on the road to Concepcion in rejection of unemployment in favor of the census.
It was because of this process that the Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant against the departmental authority and this Wednesday he was executed by police officers. The defendant is being transferred to the cells of the central Felcc to be brought to the attention of the prosecutor assigned to the case.
