Police apprehend scammers posing as customs officials

he National Police carried out Operation Pyramid this morning in the township of El Chorrillo, managing to dismantle a criminal group dedicated to scams through telephone calls.

In this operation, five people were apprehended, two women and three men, all related to the Crime Against Economic Heritage in the form of Fraud.

According to the investigations carried out by the authorities, these scammers posed as the Director or Sub-director of the National Customs Service, making calls to local businessmen from whom they requested money, to supposedly provide humanitarian aid to customs officials who they had a serious illness.

The amounts requested ranged from 500 to 2,000 dollars, which were made through third-party bank transfers.

These people will be placed under the orders of the judicial authorities and in the next few hours they will have to face a Judge of Guarantees and answer for these facts.
