Police and Prosecutor's Office disrupt international gang dedicated to fraud with credits

Lorenzo Lezcano, prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Public Ministry, announced in a press conference details about Operation Franklin, deployed on Friday morning.

The works took more than three weeks, totaling more than 25 activities. Analyzes of telephone calls from Paraguayan and foreign numbers were carried out. In total, 4 million counterfeit dollars were seized.

It is a fraud system that has its connections in the country and in others in the region. This group offered loans as they presented themselves as a financial arm of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

“They affirmed that after the demobilization of the FARC they acquired a certain amount of money and had the mission to invest. Based on the complaint of one of the victims, who contacted the Anti-kidnapping Department, began an investigation to disrupt the scheme. In order to carry out the task, we need to resort to other police officers in the region, ”she explained.

In total, six people were arrested, some US$70,000 reais were seized, in addition to the aforementioned counterfeit money.

Nimio Cardozo, head of the Anti-kidnapping Department of the National Police, reported that Operation Franklin took 3 weeks, 7 documents from the Public Ministry, search warrants, analysis of links of telephone calls were prepared. They also had the support of the Colombian National Police.

“We have captured 6 Colombian and Ecuadorian people,” he said.
