Without giving details about it, the Policeman Nacional claims to have clues that will lead to clarifying the four cases of violence occurred between last Friday and early Saturday morning in the country and that left at least four people dead and several injured.
With a “we are working on the investigations”, the spokesman for the PolicemanDiego Pesqueira included in one sentence the information that he said he could offer for the moment regarding the events that occurred.
One of these events was the shooting attack, by two hooded men, suffered by the occupants of a vehicle when they were traveling along the Mella highway in Santo Domingo Este.
Two of them, identified as Fernando Santos Martínez and Víctor Brahian Sánchez Solano, were killed instantly, while the other occupant, Julio César Marte Rodríguez, remains in critical condition in a hospital in the capital.
The medical part of Marte Rodríguez as of yesterday indicated a slight improvement in his critical condition. The man, with seven bullet wounds, has a right lung injury, although he has already managed to get out of the ventilation machine.
“The patient is conscious, but at the thoracic level he has spinal cord injuries,” the director of the medical center where the young man is treated, whose prognosis is reserved, reported yesterday.
According to their relatives, Marte Rodríguez had been hired to do some work in the house of one of the deceased, and they were on their way to buy some materials at the hardware store they were approaching just when they were attacked by the hooded men.
Due to this fact, the Policeman follows several leads, but did not offer details.
Also on Friday, a man of Italian nationality was shot dead when he was traveling in his vehicle near the toll station on the Las Américas highway. The information indicates that it was a businessman who owns several businesses in Boca Chica.
At the moment there is no official information about it, only that it is being investigated, but sources linked to the investigations indicate that the victim had a Dominican identity card that identifies him as Lucas Garafalo, 49 years old. However, the file system of the Policeman Nacional registers the numbering of the document in the name of Darison Darío López.
The source assures that the Italian had been submitted by the Dominican authorities in 2021 for matters related to drug trafficking in 2021.
That same Friday, employees of a jewelry store killed one person and injured another when they allegedly tried to rob the business located in the Invi sector, at kilometer 10 of Independencia Avenue, in the National District.
Another of the violent events of the weekend happened at dawn last Saturday when armed men ambushed a family that was traveling in two vehicles on the San Francisco-Villa Tapia highway, in Duarte province.
The Policeman reported that in this case it was an act of hitman directed against Wilman González Paulino, who had suffered another attempted murder by shooting a week earlier. The man would be on probation for manslaughter.
Along with González Paulino, Altagracia Elvira Grullón Almonte, 35 years old; Plinio Antonio Jiménez Martínez, 24; Eury del Orbe Reyes, 18; Mario Paredes Rodríguez, 43, and two 16-year-olds.
In 2013, the press published information in which the Policeman reports the arrest of several people, including Grullón Almonte, for the murder of two men whose bodies were found burned in a Jeepeta, in San Pedro de Macorís. The deaths are attributed to González Paulino who, according to the note at the time, would have planned them from prison.
Last year, the Directorate of Prisons also reported the prison transfer of inmate Wilman González, due to the threats he received, and linked him to the murder of two men and a two-year-old child in a San Francisco hair salon.
According to the information provided by the institution, 46 rifle casings and 21 9-millimeter caliber shell casings were collected at the scene of the attack, and one of the vehicles in which the attackers were traveling was seized, a white Hyundai, inside which they allegedly found three rifle casings.
