The Civil Police and the Rio de Janeiro Military Police carried out a joint operation to combat the territorial expansion of the Red Command (CV) in the Blue Gardênia, a neighborhood of the city’s West Zone, located in the Jacarepaguá region.
The police action resulted in the deaths of six men who would be linked to the criminal faction. The CV has been expanding its territory over areas of Rio de Janeiro previously dominated by the militia.
The police managed to arrest 12 suspects, two of them identified: a security guard from one of the criminal faction heads in the region and a cargo thief, a fugitive from justice. In addition to them, four smaller offenders were seized.
The agents also seized four rifles, four pistols, a revolver, ammunition, porters, grenades, transmitting radios, large amounts of drugs and traffic notebooks.
The actions carried out on Wednesday were intended to force the criminal faction to leave the Blue Gardenia. To this end, intelligence information from the Undersecretary of Intelligence of the Military Police, the Special Operations Battalion (Bope), the 18th PM Battalion, Jacarepaguá, and the intelligence sectors of the Organized Criminal Actions and Special Inquiries (Draco). Also attending police officers from the Narcotics Police Station of the Capital (DRE-CAP) and the 22nd Police Station in Penha.
Police death
Last May 19, in an operation of the Coordination of Special Resources (Core) against the sale of contaminated mineral water and theft of electricity, in the city of God, community near Gardênia Azul, the civil policeman José Antônio Lourenço, packed with Core, was killed by a rifle shot in the head.
