Poland qualified for the Volleyball World Cup final after beating Brazil this Saturday in Katowice by 3 sets to 2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12) at the end of a game with a lot of intrigue.
The result confirmed that Poland has become the black beast of Brazil, who had already lost the last two World Cup finals to the European team.
Poland will play the final against Italy, who in the other semifinal clearly beat Slovenia by 3 sets to 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21).
Despite the support of the public to the rival, Brazil began dominating the match and despite forgiving several set balls, he scored the first round 23-25.
However, the Polish bloc started to work in the second set, beginning to control the shots of the Cuban-born player Yoandry Leal and Wallace de Souza.
Center back Jakub Kochanowski was particularly successful in blocking, thanks to his great reading of the game and his sense of timing. In fact the second set fell to the Polish side thanks to their umpteenth block.
The Poles seemed to have the match on the bench when they also scored the third set 25-20, but the Brazilians managed to equalize the game again thanks to the contribution of the experienced Lucas Saatkamp (36 years old).
The equality continued in the fifth and final set, to the best of 15 points. With 12-12 on the scoreboard, the Poles added three consecutive points to win the game and qualify.
