Podcast “Meet your candidate”: Together for Peru proposes reforms to Congress and the economic model

On the second day of Diario Correo’s “Meet your candidate” podcast, two candidates from Together for Peru from the Junín region presented their main proposals for the new Congress, with emphasis on reforms to Parliament, the fight against corruption and changes in the economic model.

Nelly Avendaño Roca, candidate for the Chamber of Deputies, questioned the high salaries and benefits of current congressmen, pointing out that they create a gap with citizens. He indicated that his group proposes to reduce privileges, reform the State and promote a new Constitution through a Constituent Assembly.

In the economic sphere, he defended mining with higher environmental standards and contracts that benefit the State and communities, in addition to the repeal of regulations that favor impunity. He also spoke out in defense of water as a public resource.

For her part, María Luz Morales Serpa, candidate for the Senate, pointed out that the political crisis responds to structural corruption in the State and expressed concern about the concentration of power in the future Senate. From his experience as a teacher, he proposed decentralizing the economy, strengthening producers and combating illegal mining and deforestation.

Morales specified that his candidacy is awaiting a resolution from the National Elections Jury due to an appeal in process. Both candidates agreed on the need to strengthen oversight and regain citizen confidence in politics.
