During this weekend the Secretary of Health of Bogotá announced that a new pneumococcal vaccine was authorized that protects against 13 pathologies, taking into account the peak that the city is experiencing due to respiratory diseases.
According to the Colombian Institute of Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam), the winter wave in the country could last until the end of this year, so there are more and more calls to maintain the corresponding precautions to avoid the spread of respiratory diseases. .

At the same time, it is worth noting that during the last few weeks there has been a high occupancy in the city’s pediatric ICU beds during the first peak in the city, since as of June 5, occupancy was above 93 %. This is why the call is mainly aimed at keeping children with their complete vaccination schedules to prevent diseases.
According to the District, it is expected that with this new pneumococcal vaccine that prevents against 13 serotypes of these diseases and not against 10, as was the case before, it will be 37,903 boys and girls throughout the city were immunized free of charge.

Those interested in applying this vaccine should take into account that the application is maintained for two months, four months and 12 months after the child is born, while the pregnant woman can apply it from the 14th week of pregnancy.
