The discursive question of the National Teaching Test (PND), applied this Sunday (26), addressed ageism as a social and educational challenge in Brazil.PND 2025: discursive question addresses ageism as a social challenge

Ageism, also known as ageism, is a term that defines prejudice, stereotype and/or discrimination against individuals or groups based on their age.

The National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) reported that the statement of the question highlights the concept of ageism, the importance of combating stereotypes and discriminatory practices based on age and promoting integration between different generations in the school environment. The text was extracted from the 2023 World Report on Ageism, produced by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The text to be prepared by the candidate must address the effects of differences between generations in the school context.

As a solution to the problem, the PND participant must present at least one activity that combats ageism and promotes intergenerational integration in educational units.

Motivating texts

To assist in the construction of the discursive text, the more than 1.08 million registered in the test called Teachers’ CNU were supported by motivating or supporting texts. The set of materials that accompanies the proposal for the discursive test has the main function of providing the thematic outline and contextualizing the candidate on the subject he needs to develop.

Among the texts made available this Sunday is the 22nd article of the Elderly Statuswhich proposes the inclusion of content on aging and the appreciation of older people in school curricula.

Another text that PND participants had access to is an excerpt from the work À Sombra Desta Mangueira, by pedagogue and educator Paulo Freire (1921-1997), published in 1995, based on the author’s own manuscripts. The text reflects on youth and old age as attitudes towards life and learning.

Objective proof

In addition to the discursive question, participants also answer objective questions about general teacher training and the specific component of the 17 areas of the degree.

According to the PND 2025 noticethe part of the test with general training content includes 30 objective questions and one discursive question, prepared based on themes linked to teacher training.

The specific part has 50 multiple-choice questions, focused on the content and skills specific to each degree. They are: visual arts; biological sciences; social sciences; computing; physical education; philosophy; physical; geography; history; letters (English); letters (Portuguese); letters (Portuguese and Spanish); letters (Portuguese and English); mathematics; music; pedagogy and chemistry.

The test has the same matrix as the theoretical assessment of the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) for Bachelor’s Degrees, which, since its edition in 2024, has focused on teacher training courses.

Lasting five hours and 30 minutes, it ended at 7pm, Brasília time.

PND

The National Teaching Test (PND) is not a public certification for the teaching profession, nor is it a competition.

The exam, created by the Ministry of Education (MEC) to assess the level of knowledge and training of future undergraduate teachers, aims to help states and municipalities select teachers for their education networks.

The MEC wants, through the National Teaching Test, to encourage the holding of public competitions and increase the number of effective teachers in Brazilian education networks.

The test will be carried out annually by Inep. The initiative is part of the More Teachers for Brazil program, which brings together actions to recognize and qualify basic education teachers and encourage teaching in the country.
