The Federation of University Centers of the Central University of Venezuela (FCU – UCV) complained this Wednesday the 21st of the attempts by a group of officials from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) to remove a banner demanding the freedom of political prisoners, displayed at one of the entrances to the university.
“We want everyone to be free and to be free immediately, full freedom for all political prisoners, especially for all those young people whose future has been cut short today for thinking differently and, consequently, being behind bars,” he expressed. Miguelangel Suarezpresident of the FCU – UCV.
Earlier, the president of the UCV Law Student Center, Jesús Leopoldo, reported that they will deliver a document to the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, where they explain the situation in the country, demand the immediate release of all political prisoners and urge him to keep his word of “a large number of releases.”
According to their data, more than forty students remain in prison for political reasons. After the protest, where several desks with messages for the freedom of prisoners were removed, a group of PNB officials approached to try to remove a banner displayed at the Tamanaco door.

The students demanded respect for university autonomy. Since last week, the Federation of University Centers of the UCV has set up its headquarters as a collection center to help the relatives of political prisoners who remain vigil in various detention centers in the Caracas Metropolitan Area. The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners exhorted officials and police bodies to arrest «these arbitrary, intimidating and harassing practiceswhich translate into new abuses against the victims of repression in the country.
They also demanded respect for peaceful protest and freedom of expression, while calling on the international community “to remain in alert and report these abuses of the repressive apparatus of the Venezuelan State, which “insists in perpetuating arbitrariness repudiated by the world”.
