PNB detained two paramilitaries in Táchira and thwarted an attack

Two members of paramilitary groups were captured in Ureña, on the Táchira-Colombia border, according to police sources.

The detainees are: Astrid Marilú Martínez Pérez and Julián Yesid Sánchez, classified as members of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, which operates in the North of Santander and intends to control Ureña (Táchira) through extortion and acts of sabotage, according to investigations.

The capture of the couple occurred through a special operation carried out at dawn this Thursday by Cicpc agents and the Bolivarian National Police just when the subjects intended to throw a grenade at the Goncar commercial premises, located in the Plaza Vieja de Ureña sector, an event that got frustrated.

At the time of the arrest, the officials seized a .38 revolver, an M-20 grenade, four .38 cartridges, two cell phones, and a bicycle.

The mixed police commission began a saturation operation in order to capture other members of the irregular group whose base of operations is located in the Las Cumbres neighborhood of Cucuta, Colombia.

The Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces have a history of violence for political purposes whose latest actions include the launch of a grenade at the Toluqueño Bodegón located on Intercommunal Avenue, on January 22.

They are also credited with the homicide of a child under 12 years of age at the Ebenezer Distributor on February 10.

Similarly, the double homicide by dismembering the businessman from Cúcuta Gerson Durán and his escort, an event that occurred in the city of Cúcuta, Colombia, according to records.
