The deputy for the National Party, Valentina Dos Santos, is a member of the Todos sector (led at the time by Luis Lacalle Pou), and quite close to the mayor of Artigas, Pablo Caram. On Saturday night, at about 11:59 p.m., he posted on your twitter account four photographs that unleashed a large number of criticisms and unfavorable comments.
In one of the photos, a close up of a pair of hands is seen pushing mud into brick molds. Then, a shirtless worker is seen, exposed to the sun’s rays, performing said task. The third photo is a selfie in which Dos Santos looks very smiling near the bricks drying in the sun. In the last image, a worker fills a bucket of mud with a shovel; he is also seen shirtless, barefoot in the mud and exposed to the oppressive sun.
“Brick makers of Artigas. In our city with more than 40 degrees, these workers are cutting brick in the sunlight from 1 in the afternoon,” Dos Santos commented with the images.
“These are the best bricks for our houses, let’s support the work of the artiguenses. Artigas Forward Always !!!”, added the white legislator.
The photos and comments did not go unnoticed on the social network and almost all of the responses were critical of what was supposed to be an apology for precarious work.
“It’s good that there are people who work in subhuman conditions, live in subhuman conditions, and make bricks for your properties, while they live in straw huts with dirt floors. How good that others support your wealth with hunger and misery, “wrote Daniel Mosteiro.
“You are celebrating unhealthy work with 40 degrees without protection measures, unless you have sunscreen or water, the slaver is beautiful but what a bigger filth you oligarchs suck rifles,” replied the user @ daianap04758264.
“At least an awning to protect them from the sun, I suppose they should be given cold water to hydrate themselves, a cheap suntan lotion to take care of their skin, is that too much to ask? Or the less you invest in the worker, the more profit for you?”, were the questions of @rey_arturo1892.
