The São Paulo Military Police will have a special security scheme during Carnival, in the capital of São Paulo, to assist women. The corporation will place female military police officers on the streets dedicated especially to immediately welcoming victims of sexual harassment and arresting aggressors.
The police officers will be in permanent contact with the Cabine Lilás program, from the PM Operations Center (Copom). The program, which will remain active during Carnival, serves 190 and has 100% of its staff made up of female police officers.
“The Lilás Cabin centralizes all the state’s initiatives to protect women in a single place. Around 30% of the women who receive guidance through the Lilás Cabin end up registering a police report. This is the first step towards ending the cycle of violence, highlights the commander of the São Paulo Copom, Colonel Carlos Henrique Lucena.
In total, the São Paulo Military Police will have, in addition to the existing staff, an increase of 5.2 thousand military police officers per day during the São Paulo Carnival and around 2.5 thousand vehicles in the megablocks, street blocks and other scheduled events.
According to the police, the security scheme will feature extensive use of technology. In addition to the cameras integrated into the Muralha Paulista program – which generate alerts about fugitives from justice and stolen or stolen vehicles – drones will be used for real-time aerial monitoring.
