“The directory of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party, in two sessions on August 18 and October 1, 2020, has studied and resolved to recommend to the parliamentarians of the Party to promote the Political prosecution of the State Attorney General Sandra Quiñonez, for poor performance in their functions and for omitting the investigations for serious acts of corruption. That is why the PLRA board of directors recommends and instructs its legislators to promote impeachment as it corresponds to the law and due to the seriousness of the reported facts,” reads the document.
INDECISION
The bench “B” of the Chamber of Deputies is made up of seven legislators; Édgar Ortiz, María López Rotela, Enrique Mineur, Manuel Trinidad, Hugo Capurro, Sergio Rojas and José Reinaldo Rodríguez.
Ortiz has already announced that he will not support the dismissal of the attorney general. Enrique Mineur, for his part, affirmed that he will first read the accusatory libel before issuing a position. Therefore, there is no unanimous decision, since Sergio Rojas stated that they will meet as a bench to make the decision.
The meeting was supposed to take place on Tuesday afternoon, but at press time there was still no news.
ACOSTA
Édgar Acosta, a national deputy, urged part of the Llanista deputies to vote for Quiñónez’s dismissal, because the Attorney General represents the interests of the Chartists and not of the citizenry.
“That is why that sector always comes out to defend it. It is a turning point to ensure that the Prosecutor’s Office represents everyone and not just a part of the population. They can do what they want with their votes, but they must act honestly in their parliamentary work. If they say they are related to Cartes, no one is going to question them, but they cannot say that because they are internal to the Colorado Party and that is why they are not going to support it”, he questioned.
OFFICIALISM
On Monday afternoon, congressmen from the ruling party (“Añeteté” or “Republican Force”), announced that they will promote a political trial against Sandra Quiñónez, state attorney general. With this, there are 18 of 80 deputies and 10 of 45 senators who will vote in favor of the dismissal, at the time it is discussed in both chambers. The meeting took place in the house of Arnaldo Samaniego.
With this, the 18 Colorado deputies join the 8 from the multibank and 21 from the liberal bench that would support the political trial. However, they only add up to 47 votes and 53 are needed if the full Congress is present during the vote.
