Through a public letter addressed to Mario Asencio Flores, president of the Independent Liberal Party (PLI), which operates as a satellite of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), the well-known opponent of Somoto, Madriz, Danelia Argüello Cano complained about the usurpation of her identity by that briefcase political organization, which registered her, without her knowledge, as a candidate for mayor of that departmental capital, for the elections that are scheduled to take place on November 6.
«I demand that my name be removed from the list of candidates for Mayors published in La Gaceta No. 172 of September 13, 2022. My name, Danelia del Rosario Argüello Cano, appears as if I am a candidate for Mayor of the municipality of Somoto, Madriz for the PLI”, claimed the opponent who has been subjected to a siege by Daniel Ortega’s Police, precisely for opposing fraud and the violation of human rights.
Argüello snapped at Mario Ascencio for “illegally using my name for his political business”, while reaffirming that “I have been and will continue to be critical of the collaborationist parties and I will never lend myself to being part of elections that do not enjoy credibility.” , nor conditions », he continues in his public letter.
Two relatives of Argüello are also candidates usurped by the PLI
In the letter spread on her social networks, the opposition also complained about the use of the name of her nephew Olmer Francisco Navarrete Báez, who appears on the list of candidates for councilors by the PLI in Somoto. “He has been in exile since April of this year and is not aware of the illegal use of his name.”
Another of the usurped citizens, according to Danelia Argüello, is Wilfredo Francisco Navarrete Cano, “who is in Nicaragua, but has never been a member of the PLI and is a simple man, a bricklayer, who is not looking for any public office,” he denounced.
Lastly, Argüello warned the PLI leader that “we will take legal action against you, your representative in the Department of Madriz, who we don’t even know who he is, because in this department you have no bases and you know it, don’t be so scoundrels,” he concludes.
In 2021, Danelia Argüello was decreed precautionary measures by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR)precisely because of the increase in harassment and threats by the Police, under the control of Daniel Ortega.
