With the vote in favor of 51 legislators, the Plenary of Congress approved accusing former Prime Minister Betssy Chávez for the crimes of incompatible negotiation and influence peddling. Another 14 parliamentarians voted against, while six abstained. According to subsection J of the Congress Regulation, the file with the constitutional accusation against Chávez will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office to proceed according to its powers.
According to the final report prepared by the Subcommittee of Constitutional Accusations and approved more than four months ago by the Permanent Commission, Chávez taking advantage of her position of Minister of Labor and under her direct authorization she would have favored in the irregular hiring of her partner Marco Sotelo Villa in Essalud, without public tender, contravening internal norms.
Chávez would also have influenced the designation in the Sunafil and Senati by Antonio Sotelo Calderón, father of his partner and militant of Peru Libre.
The report accredits testimonies of the contracted themselves, in documents signed by the denounced and in a written statement of the same prime minister, in which he admits to having ordered these designations, even during the period in which he was with parliamentary license.
Congressmen María Acuña and Estras Medina sustained the report before the Plenary and will formulate the constitutional accusation against the today processed by the crime of rebellion.
On the last Monday the Permanent Commission approved the final report of the complaint recommended by disabling for 10 years to exercise any public office against Betssy Chávez for its participation in the coup d’etat of December 7, led by Pedro Castillo. The Plenary of the Congress must decide whether the report ratifies or sends the recommendation to the file.
