The owner of the Secretary of Equality and Gender Equity the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Claudia Rita Abreuassured that the social, political and economic gains achieved by the dominican women they are going backwards and many have been completely abandoned by the current government.

The words were offered by the PLD leader during the Floral Offering in honor of Gladys Gutiérrez held at the Cristo Redentor Cemetery on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day that is celebrated every March 8 in various countries of the world.

The head of the Secretariat for Gender Equality and Equity stated that this, March 08, is celebrated “International Women’s Day”, in which the struggles of women for equality and demands for their rights are remembered, it is shameful to see how the conquests of women are in serious danger.

He stated that during the PRM government, poverty in households headed by women increased in 2021 to 25.8%; as well as infant maternal mortality, which has increased by nearly 30% due to lack of adequate care.

In this sense, he pointed out that of every four unemployed people, 3 are women; femicides have increased; and planning for affective and sexual education is shelved in the Ministry of Education, while we continue with a very high rate of adolescent pregnancy.

He indicated that the Comprehensive Disability Care Centers (CAID) aimed at helping children with special conditions are abandoned, affecting poor families, especially mothers who are mostly caregivers at home.

He recalled that in 2019 more than 1 million 600 thousand boys and girls received 3 guaranteed daily meals and 8 hours of class in fully equipped classrooms, while now they attend two or three times a week in half a shift.

“The abandonment of the Extended School Day is deteriorating the progress that the poorest and single mothers had, who had already found a way to guarantee breakfast, lunch and snacks for their sons and daughters, plus the economic savings that this it meant to them and the opportunity for them to study and work during school hours,” Claudia Rita Abreu specified in statements reviewed by the PLD Communications Secretariat.

The head of the Secretariat for Gender Equality and Equity at the offering at the Gladys Gutiérrez pantheon in Campo Santo, highlighted her contributions to the political and social achievements of Dominican women, both within the PLD and in Dominican society. and internationally.

“That is why we have come here to pay a floral offering to Gladys Gutiérrez, a fighter for Dominican democracy, who was part of the June 14 Movement at a very young age, then suffered violence and persecution during Balaguer’s 12 years, becoming a the symbol of the widows who lost their husbands due to the political repression of that time”, he emphasized.

He affirmed that Gladys Gutiérrez was a tireless fighter for her social beliefs based on justice and the eradication of inequality between men and women, and a faithful follower of the ideals of Professor Juan Bosch.

He announced that the construction of a bust of Gladys Gutiérrez in the National House of the PLD is being negotiated, since thanks to her the Secretariat for Women was created, today the Secretariat for Gender Equality and Equity; and as councilor and deputy she promoted the creation of the Ministry of Women, of which she was head.

Claudia Rita Abreu reiterated that International Women’s Day is conducive to remembering and sowing in the new generations, that the achievements that today favor the women of the world have cost the effort, struggle and sacrifice of many people for centuries.

“The Secretariat for Equality and Gender Equity of the PLD has a commitment to make visible the role of women in history, both in politics, as in the arts, sciences and the liberation struggles of the world, where we have been marginalized and even omitted. in the texts and historical recounts, shaping ourselves even in submissive versions, when we have also been protagonists”, he pointed out.

In the activity in recognition of Gladys Gutiérrez, the members of the Political Committee were present Cristina Lizardo, Geovanni Nina, her grandson and niece Doris and her husband Luis Fernández, member of the Central Committee, relatives of the deceased leader and the heads of Secretaries Michael Matos, of youth; Alfonso Ureña, from Environment; Maritza Hernández, work; and Enid Gil, from social inclusion; in addition to Ventura García, Wendy Chevalier and Dinorah Vásquez, for the PLD Secretary for Gender Equality and Equity.

Geovanni Nina, grandson of Gladys Gutiérrez, thanked on behalf of his relatives for the activity of the Dominican Liberation Party, remembering his grandmother who died in 2015.
