Santo Domingo.-The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), which governed the country for 20 years, celebrates its 51st anniversary next Sunday the 15th.
A commission, chaired by the former senator Cristina Lizardoprepares the commemorative activities of the date, in the capital, the provinces and the sections abroad.
The date will be remembered with floral offerings, recognition of meritorious PLD members, a national meeting of leaders and the exaltation of the memory of its late leader and founder, professor Juan Boschamong other activities.

They left the PRD
The PLD was founded on December 15, 1973, by Bosch and a group of leaders who left the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD.
The Juan Pablo Duarte Congressconstitutive of the organization, was held at the defunct Fiesta de Luxe events center, in the Evaristo Morales sector, in the capital.
In that act, the Central Committee, the Political Committee were chosen and Professor Juan Bosch held the presidency of the new political organization.

After 23 years in the political opposition, in 1996 the purple party came to power for the first time, making the university professor president of the Republic Leonel Fernandez Reynajust 43 years old.
Fernández won the presidential election with the support of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) and its leader Joaquín Balaguera.
In 2000, Fernández was replaced in power by former president Hipólito Mejía.PRD candidate. He returned to the presidential seat in 2024 and was re-elected in 2008.
The PLD remained in power in 2012, this time with former president Danilo Medina Sánchez, who was re-elected in the 2016 elections.

The general secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Johnny Pujols, asked the organization’s leadership and militancy to join the celebration of the 51st anniversary with enthusiasm. “They must ensure that the great commemoration has the value it requires, inviting people to join the different events prepared by the celebrations commission,” he said.
