SANTO DOMINGO.- The head of the Secretariat of Public Administration of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Carlos Manzano, warned about institutional deterioration, which is manifested, in an increasingly evident way, in the inefficiency and deterioration of public services.
“What previously worked with considerable ease and agility, today has become a true ordeal for citizens, professionals and productive sectors that depend on the State to operate,” Manzano said in statements released by the PLD Communications Secretariat.
It states that the delays observed in the issuance of environmental and construction permits, the extreme slowness in the approval of business projects and the general disorganization in multiple public agencies reflect an administration without direction or response capacity.
“Unfortunately, public services in the Dominican Republic are on the verge of collapse, a situation that contrasts head-on with the constant boasts of efficiency and effectiveness that the government displays in its official speech,” commented the public management expert.
It is believed that one cannot talk about efficiency while files that directly impact the economy are kept shelved.
“The deterioration of public services has reached such a magnitude that it has caused the resurgence, in almost all public institutions, of the so-called ‘buscones’, figures who reappear to try to speed up processes due to the inability of the State to respond in a timely manner,” denounced Carlos Manzano.
He explains in his statements that efficiency is not proclaimed, it is demonstrated with results and that contrary to the Government’s profuse publicity, what is revealed is a slow, inefficient and disconnected State from the real needs of the country.
