Santo Domingo.-The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) will go to the polls this Sunday to elect a president, a general secretary and the 51 members of the Political Committee, for the period 2024-2028.
In the voting, scheduled to begin at 9:00 in the morning, the current president of the party, Danilo Medina Sánchez, will opt for re-election competing with leader Francisco Domínguez Brito.
The leaders José Dantés Díaz, Yván Lorenzo and Johnny Pujols aspire to be the general secretary of the organization, while Luis de León withdrew his aspiration.

Voter registration will begin at 7:00 in the morning in the Karate Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
In the first part of the event, Cristina Lizardo, coordinator of the Organizing Commission of the 10th PLD Congress, will swear in the newly elected members of the Central Committee. That commission said that 1,493 members make up the Central Committee who will vote to choose the party’s leadership.
Reserved positions
Of the 51 positions for members of the Political Committee, 11 were reserved for Danilo Medina due to his status as former president of the Republic; Jaime David Fernández and Margarita Cedeño, for being former vice presidents.
Also, Gonzalo Castillo and Abel Martínez, for being former candidates for the presidency of the Republic; Temístocles Montás, for being former president of the party; Lidio Cadet and Charlie Mariotti for being former general secretaries and Euclides Gutiérrez Félix, designated as an “ad vitam” member of the organization.
The other two positions are reserved for those who win the presidency and general secretary of the party, which will be contested that same day.
To form the new Political Committee, 101 leaders aspire, including the president and the Secretary General.
The digital ballot is divided into boxes in which the photographic image of the candidate is placed, organized in alphabetical order of surnames, with the name of the person, their ballot number and if they have a nickname, as well.
A participation
The members of the Central Committee will vote in a single participation for the presidency, the general secretary and the Political Committee, at this last level a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 41 members can be chosen.
It is mandatory for voters to present their identification and electoral card when registering.
