The president of the bicameral commission that studies the Domain Extinction Law, Pedro Catrain, today accused the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) of boycotting the approval of the piece out of fear because it seeks to recover the assets obtained through corruption. and organized crime.

He assured that the opposition party has a great fear because through the initiative the ill-gotten assets could be recovered.

“The fundamental fact for which the approval of the Domain Extinction Law has been stopped is because the PLD is very afraid of it, I want a response today from the campaign that the PLD has unleashed against the approval of this law, because the problem the fear that he has of this law that allows the confiscation of assets obtained by corruption and organized crime, that is the fundamental fact for which the PLD has been boycotting the piece,” he said.

He added that “it is the fear that this law is enacted and could be an important instrument for the recovery of public heritage assets.”

Senator Catrain accused the PLD spokesman in the Senate, Yván Lorenzo, of setting up a theater to frighten businessmen with the issue of tax avoidance so that this sector allegedly withdraws its support for the approval of the piece.

At the same time, he rejected that the piece collides with articles of the Constitution of the Republic as some sectors allege.

He explained that with a conversation held yesterday at the headquarters of the Madre y Maestra Catholic University with national and international experts, it was clear that the piece is not unconstitutional.

“The PLD spokesman has tried to make a circus, he is trying to make a theater of the Congress, when the basic function of the mandate of the legislators is to legislate, approve laws and that is what we want to do as soon as possible to promulgate the Domain Extinction Law”, said the also representative of the Modern Revolutionary Party for Samaná.

He affirmed that “the PLD spokesman in the Senate is threatening businessmen with the figure of tax avoidance so that they withdraw support for the project, therefore they, as businessmen, know that the figure of avoidance is not criminalized anywhere. of Dominican legislation, tax avoidance does not exist in Dominican criminal law nor in any regulation of the tax administration, we legislators cannot be irresponsible and violate legislative techniques”.

He considered that the majority of the senators or the deputies will not lend themselves to the boycott of the PLD supporters. “Most of the senators and most of the representatives are not going to commit such a blunder,” he maintained.

Catrain called on the legislators to be sensible and recalled that the Property Forfeiture Law is a demand of the entire Dominican society that took to the streets to demand the recovery of stolen property and an end to impunity.

For more than ten years, the bill for the Domain Extinction Law has been debated by congressmen, but up to now it has not been endorsed, despite the constant claims that demand the approval of the piece.
