MIAMI, United States. — Baseball players Alfredo Fadraga and Yosvani Ávalos, members of the Cuba team that is participating in the U-23 Pan American Baseball Championship that takes place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, will be returned to the island after they will try to escape of the concentration of the national team.

The news was advanced this Friday by the journalist and writer specialized in baseball Francys Romero. According to the reporter, the goal is for the players not to try to escape again.

“Alfredo Fadraga and Yosvani Ávalos will travel to Cuba today and are being taken to the Mexico City airport right now. Terrible reality that they will have to face now returning to Cuba,” says the information Posted by Romero.

According to the reporter, Fadraga (23 years old) and Ávalos had left the rally last Wednesday, but they came back 24 hours later to the Ramada hotel where the Cuban team is staying.

The players could be severely sanctioned upon their return to the island, especially after a statement from the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) described their initial abandonment as a breach “of the commitment made to the delegation and the homeland.”

The note also points out that the players “incurred in reprehensible acts,” which are condemned by the Cuban authorities “since the decision not to give in to this or other obstacles.”

Alfredo Fadraga and Yosvani Ávalos, both representing the Ciego de Ávila team, were two of the prospects that exhibited the best performance in the last National Baseball Series. The former had 21 home runs and 58 RBIs, with a .315 batting average, while the latter pitched for a 2.56 ERA with 10 saves.
