Since Thursday afternoon, the Maldonado Police have been conducting an investigation into the appearance of human remains on the shore of Playa Mansa, in east end.
It is a human hand found in a state of decomposition. A person was walking enjoying himself along the shore of Playa Mansa, at stop 40, in the Piedras del Chileno area; he was collecting snails among the rocks when, at a certain moment, he bumped into his hand.
The fact was corroborated by the prefect of Punta del Este, Captain Sebastián Sorribas, who reported that the authorities became aware of the situation when the person who found the hand contacted the 9-1-1 Emergency Service.
The Police arrived at the site and later the personnel of the Prefecture would do the same. Subsequently, the Scientific Police attended to carry out the photographic survey of the discovery and carry out the removal of the remains.
The Police transferred the upper limb to the Forensic Technical Institute (ITF), so that it can practice skills and see if it can be determined who it belonged to.
On the other hand, Ana Dean’s 4th Shift prosecutor was appointed to coordinate the investigation of the case.
Remains found on the beach
It should be remembered that on April 30 of this year the National Navy reported the discovery of a leg in the Bella Vista spa (Maldonado), near the “Las Flores” stream.
On that occasion it was a woman who found the lower extremity and called the police to report the incident. As with the hand, this part of the body was transferred to the ITF to be tested.
It was not yet possible to determine if the hand and the leg belonged to the same body and if the first appeared now, after a cyclone stirred up the Fernandina waters. At first it was speculated that the lower extremity belonged to Martín Migales. This was a 44-year-old man who was murdered, dismembered and thrown into the Río de la Plata in Montevideo.
The progress of the investigation -in the case of the leg, carried out by prosecutor Sebastián Robles- will be decisive in determining the correspondence of the remains.
