Plans advance to build a coastal walk in Carmelo

Rodríguez explained to El Eco that the project – which is officially called “Paseo Costero” – has had significant advances, especially in the negotiation stage with the owners of the land where the work will pass. “We have already advanced a lot with the Flores Flores family, which are the owners of the properties. They are totally interested,” said the mayor.

In addition, the Intendencia team has already begun efforts with the National Directorate of Environmental Quality and Evaluation (Dinacea), in search of advancing in the necessary permits and the corresponding environmental impact studies. “It is a topic that takes time, feasibility studies, hydraulic … the most important work is not only the walk itself, but the amount of water that is going to be removed from the Mianovich neighborhood and the Saravia neighborhood,” he added.

A project in three stages

As detailed by Rodríguez, the “Coastal Walk” will be divided into three stages. The first, which is the study today, will cover from the El Creamco stream to the Vieja Beach, crossing emblematic areas such as Corralito Beach. “It is a very extensive area … I have imposing expectations. For me it would be Carmelo’s work, I would put him in front of the river and not on his back,” he said with enthusiasm.

The second stage is projected from thirty -three street to Ansina -which is the one that for the cemetery to have an idea. Finally, the third phase would connect Ansina with the spa, closing a comprehensive coastal circuit that would change the urban and tourist profile of the city.

Rodríguez emphasized that, although the start is the most complex, the government team has been working intensely. “All week we are with one theme or another: seeing where to ask for permits, what impact studies you have to do … and we have been fine,” he said.

A before and after

Carmelo’s “coastal walk” is emerging as a transformative work not only in urban and tourist terms, but also in terms of hydraulic infrastructure for neighborhoods that have historically suffered drainage problems. For Mayor Rodríguez, it is an emblematic project that will only be possible with the support of all sectors involved.
“We are going step by step, but the road is underway,” he concluded.
