In the conversation about “Planning of the electricity sector”held at the El Embajador hotel, Cabral stressed that planning is a necessary process to consolidate the electricity sector and mandatory to contribute to the country’s sustainable development.

“In the electricity sector, it is especially important to have a consensual planning that includes all the subsectors and that is reviewed periodically,” he said.

He indicated that investments are significant and projects take years to execute, so having a guide known to all is essential to strengthen the sector.

The planning of the national electricity system, he said, would be decisive to prevent situations, both foreseeable and unexpected, from negatively impacting the actors, as well as to achieve a stable energy supply, competitive prices and without interruptions.

While the director of National Energy Commission He argued that energy planning should focus on increasing renewables in the country.

He explained that since last year the first draft of the National Energy Plan, which is being socialized with the actors in order to achieve adequate planning.

He stated that four large photovoltaic plants have been inaugurated and another fourteen are being built in different regions of the country.

The Economist Henri Hebrard He said that the National Energy Plan is an important tool for the sector and highlighted the role played by renewable energy.

He pointed out that for every dollar that a barrel of crude oil rises, the oil bill rises by about US$75 million, that is, about RD$4,000 million.
