Plane that covered the Montreal-Holguín route makes an emergency landing in Jacksonville

MIAMI, United States.- The Jacksonville fire rescue teams responded this Thursday afternoon to an incident at the city’s airport that involved a plane with 159 people on board that was traveling from Montreal to Cuba.

According to a note from News4Jaxa fire was reported in the cargo department of the plane, a 737 of the Canadian airline OWG (Off we go), which caused the emergency landing.

The report explains that once the fire broke out, the crew informed the ground, forcing an emergency landing in Jacksonville. “The plane’s fire extension system sprayed the fire before landing, but JFRD crews were available to check the plane,” the text reads.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority explained that it is not yet known what will happen to the plane’s passengers.

The Canadian airline OWG had started flying in December 2020, and on June 23 it was announced that I would resume trips to the islandaccording to the state news agency Prensa Latina.

The flight for this Thursday, June 30, according to the schedule, was headed to Holguín. OWG had scheduled a flight for tomorrow, Friday, July 1, to the city of Santa Clara, on Saturday, July 2, to Varadero, and on Sunday, July 3, to Cayo Coco.

According to the information, each of these destinations will receive two flights from Thursday to Sunday (one from Toronto and the other from Montreal) until next October 31, the date on which the autumn-winter season begins.

Throughout the last decade, Canada has been the main source market for tourists to Cuba. From January to May 2022, 182,733 Canadian visitors arrived on the island, a figure much higher than the 2,278 who traveled to the island in the same period in 2021.
