Planalto rejects text in the Chamber that maintains a 6x1 scale

Federal government ministers announced this Tuesday afternoon (2) a position contrary to the opinion of federal deputy Luiz Gastão (PSD-CE) on the reduction of working hours to 40 hours per week without the end of the 6×1 work schedule. Planalto rejects text in the Chamber that maintains a 6x1 scale

The parliamentarian’s text should be voted on this Wednesday (3), in the Chamber of Deputies, in a subcommittee that analyzes the topic. Then, if approved, the matter will be taken up for discussion by the House’s Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ).

“The government wants to reaffirm to parliamentarians that our position is at the end of the 6 to 1 scale. We understand that there must be quality of life in the lives of workers”, stated the Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann.

“It’s not enough to just reduce working hours, it’s also necessary for workers to have time to solve their problems, leisure time, time to take care of their family”, added the minister, in a statement to the press.

Gleisi was accompanied by the minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Guilherme Boulos, federal deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), author of the first proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) on the topic in the Chamber (PEC 221/2019), and deputy Daiana Santos (PCdoB-RS), author of bill 67/2025, which also proposes reducing the working day from 44 hours per week to 40 hours.

“We were surprised by the subcommittee’s report. So, we will continue defending this position of the end of the 6×1 work schedule, without salary reduction, in Parliament, in society, on the streets, and dialogue with all parliamentarians. It is an agenda approved by more than 70% of the Brazilian population in all surveys”, said minister Guilherme Boulos.
