The challenge in Zacatecas
In January 2022 a challenge came called Zacatecas. That entity disputed by the “Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel”, the “Pacific Cartel”, the “Gulf Cartel”, the “Northeast Cartel” and a local organization, “Los Talibán”, was facing a new crisis of violence.
To deal with the climate of insecurity, the federal government announced Plan Zacatecas II, which contemplated reinforcing the presence of federal elements. The Mexican Army and the National Guard would have 3,848 elements: 1,940 troops in the central region, 804 in the north, and 1,104 in the south of the state. The object was to avoid confrontation between criminal groups.
Almost 11 months he was in office. This Thursday Urzúa Padilla was injured during a confrontation with criminals in the Pinos municipality. Although he was transferred in a helicopter from the Ministry of Public Security to a hospital, he died.
Those of us who make up the State Peacebuilding Roundtable inform with regret the death of General José Silvestre Urzúa Padilla, coordinator of the National Guard in the state. We send our condolences to his family and loved ones.

In addition to his death, in that confrontation three national guards and two agents of the Zacatecas Investigation Police were injured, although not seriously.
A tribute was paid to the general this Friday, and it is yet to be determined whether his remains will be transferred to Mexico City.
His incorporation into the National Guard occurred like that of other soldiers who were commissioned to this new public security corporation.
