President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, began this weekend the asphalting and resurfacing of the streets of the municipalities of Los Alcarrizos and Pedro Brand, Santo Domingo province, whose budget exceeds 200 millions of pesos.

These works are part of the National Asphalting Plan in the different provinces, which includes the most needy municipalities and sectors throughout the country, which will be extended to the entire national geography during the four years of the current government administration.

Ascención explained that through the MOPC in these two municipalities of the Santo Domingo province an investment of more than 200 million pesos will be made, which includes the paving of 23 streets, including the construction and reconstruction of sidewalks and curbs.

He also highlighted the supervision visit by President Abinader to the works that began in the Los Cocos sector of Los Alcarrizos,í and that cover both municipalities “is to guarantee that they comply with the plan that through of the MOPC is carried out”.

“Up to this moment here in Los Cocos, Pueblo Nuevo, La Fe, we have paved the equivalent of about seven kilometers of streets and the construction of the same number of sidewalks and curbs, with an investment of more than 58 million pesos, from a contract of more than 200 million pesos”, he stated.

He said that from the MOPC it is hoped that the works started in Los Alcarrizos, Pantoja and Pedro Brand can impact the asphalting of about 28 or 30 kilometers.

“Until now we have intervened about 23 streets in the sectors that I have referred to,” he explained.

The streets of the Los Cocos sector that have been paved are: Ámbar, San Antonio, Duarte, Rubí, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, San Ramón, San Marcos, Central, Guzmán, and San Lucas.

In the Pueblo Nuevo sector, streets 3, 7, 13, 15, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30 and 32 are paved.

Joy among community

Félix del Jesús, a resident of Los Cocos, said that the paving that the government through the MOPC is carrying out there constitutes progress for that community, since it had been waiting for years.

“It seems to me that it is an advance of the government, with which it shows that it has been concerned about the poor of this country, since past administrations forgot about this town. The work the government is doing is excellent,” he said.

Jorge Rodríguez, another community member from that sector, affirmed that the asphalt work, as well as the construction of sidewalks and curbs that are carried out there, have a great impact on these communities, “which were forgotten by the past authorities.”

“We are very grateful for the work of President Luis Abinader, in conjunction with the mayor’s office of the municipality.”

Santa Díaz, a housewife, said that “for several years we have been waiting for the asphalt to be finished, and that is the only thing one needs: for the country to progress.”
