The Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves, spoke, in a special statement for Women’s Day, about the actions carried out by the ministry to improve the lives of Brazilian women. According to her, last year alone, around R$ 236 billion were invested in policies aimed at women.
The minister highlighted that in the last three years, about 30 laws that benefit women have been enacted. They were also given priority in several programs such as housing and land tenure regularization, Emergency Aid and Auxílio Brasil.
In his speech, Damares Alves gave special emphasis to the fight against violence against women. According to her, more than R$ 600 million will be invested in the Plan to Combat Feminicide by 2023. The plan will have joint action by five ministries. In addition, 23 new homes for Brazilian women will be inaugurated. The minister also spoke about equipping specialized police and training common police stations to assist victims of violence. “No woman will be left behind,” said the minister.
