“The plan called the Metropolitan Task Force to Fight Microtrafficking and Drug Dealing is part of the strategic plan to fight drug trafficking,” said the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, at the presentation of the results of the first month of implementation of this measure, which allowed the dismantling of 82 drug outlets in the departments of Montevideo, Canelones and San José.
At the conference, this Thursday the 15th at the ministerial headquarters, there were also the Undersecretary of the Interior, Guillermo Maciel; the director of the National Police, Diego Fernández; the Montevideo Police chiefs, Mario D’Elía; from Canelones, Víctor Trezza, and from San José, Orestes Da Silva.
“There is a dynamic Police that shows good results”assured Heber, who announced that in the second quarter of the year the crimes of theft and robbery continue to decline.
Diego Fernández remarked that the creation of this force was previously analyzed, in order to optimize existing resources. He expressed that the results allow consigning an increase in efficiency and effectiveness. “The first evaluation is positive”, he claimed.
Mario D’Elía explained that in the first month of implementation of the plan, 82 raids were carried out, based on police and financial intelligence work in cities of the departments of San José and Canelones, as well as in neighborhoods of Montevideo.
He added that these raids resulted in the dismantling of 82 drug sales outlets, 11 of which were taped. “The crime drops between 12% and 23% as soon as the mouth is covered”, specified the police officer.
Mario D’Elía reported that 89 people were arrested, of which 69% received a prison sentence or formalization. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the seized substances were cocaine, worth 80,000 dollars; cannabis, for $7,600, and cocaine base paste plus synthetic drugs, for $66,000.
The Montevideo Police Chief explained that the seized money amounted to 1,819,621 pesos, in addition to 13 weapons and 10 vehicles, which will be at the disposal of the National Drug Board.
