The Liberal Party announced, this Thursday (27), that the former president Jair Bolsonaro had his party functions suspended and also stopped receiving remuneration from the party.
In a note, the PL argued that the measure occurred “unfortunately” as a result of the law (9096/95) and also due to the suspension of the political rights of Bolsonaro, who is the honorary president of the party.
The suspension of party activities and remuneration will last, according to the note, as long as the effects of the conviction by Criminal Action 2668 exist.
Bolsonaro began his prison sentence this week and is incarcerated at the Federal Police headquarters in Brasília. He was convicted of an attempted coup d’état.
Flávio calls for “unity”
This evening, senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the former president, posted on X that the suspension of Bolsonaro’s party activities “was something mandatory, and not by the will of the party”.
“If he is arbitrarily prevented from working, the law determines that,” wrote the senator.
He defended that the political group remains united. “As long as I’m alive, my father will lack nothing. I repeat, it’s time for us to be united”, defended the senator.
