The PL sent today (23) to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) a request to request that the progress of the petition in which the caption calls for the annulment of votes in the second round of elections, held on October 30.
In a press conference, the party’s president, Valdemar Costa Neto, said that the survey found “malfunctions and breach of reliability of the data extracted” in 279,000 ballot boxes. in case they are disregarded the votes from the ballot boxes that would have “signs” of problems, Jair Bolsonaro would have 1.078 million more votes than the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“We ask the TSE to decide the situation. It is not about making a new election, ”he said. “Voting is safe, so we have to do this survey. If this is a stain, we have to solve it now”, he added.
Costa Neto also stated that the verification of possible errors was restricted to the second round due to “coincidence” or “technology”, since according to the party president, the hired consultancy verified the error only in this stage of the election. In the first round, the PL elected the largest group in the National Congress, with 99 deputies and 14 senators. Yesterday (22), the president of the TSE, Minister Alexandre de Morais, determined that the party had 24 hours to make an addition to the previous request and, thus, extend the questioning to the first round of the elections.
“The PL is not opposed to verification in the first round, but it would be easier to start with the second round,” he said. “The party’s decision was to limit itself to the second round to facilitate the defense of those involved in the second round, which is for just one candidate,” he added.
Asked about the evidence or indications that could attest to the problems pointed out, lawyer Marcelo Bessa limited himself to answering that “all the answers are in the report” presented to the TSE.
“The authoring coalition requests that the second round of the 2022 election be maintained as the initial scope of the extraordinary verification, and, once the malfunctioning and the breach of reliability of the data extracted from part of the electronic ballot boxes used in the election is verified, this distinguished Superior Court Eleitoral then adopt, in a consequential manner, observing the principles of the adversary and the broad defense of the interested parties, the practical and legal effects necessary for both rounds of the General Elections of 2022”, wrote the party.
